Need to replace purebred husky - not being accepted by GSD already living in home

I contacted Wendy last week and found out that Niko is still looking for a Forever Home.  Please cross post to anyone that you think may be able to help.

"Saving one dog may not change the world, but will change the world for that one dog."

Good Morning,
Below is an email that is from a friend of a friend.  She is currently trying to find a home for a male husky that she took in.  He is not getting along with one of her German Shepherds.  The conflict has resulted in injuries to the dogs and to Wendy.  Please cross post Niko's story.  If any of you know of a husky rescue that may be able to help that would be fantastic.  It's very obvious from looking at the pictures that he is 100% husky.  Also, please take note that he is Zinc deficient.  He is on a particular brand of Iams dog food that has been working well for him.  Please do not post on Craig's List or such sites.

Niko was born on 01/23/04, which makes him a little over six.

He weighs approx 75 lbs and is a little overweight , he is zinc deficient (which I found out is common in Huskies). The only treatment I use is diet, he is on the Iams Response FP, skin and coat diet, which works well.  If he is not on it, he starts to get crusting around the eyes and mouth

He was kept in a crate by his previous owner.  I think he would still like it if someone wished to use one.  Just don't put bedding in, he will chew it

He is really a nice dog, very friendly, gets along with all kinds of dogs, and is very well behaved at the dog park.  It is my dog that is the problem he can't stand Niko and constantly goes after him.  It's not in a good way.

Niko is pretty low energy for a Husky. He likes to wrestle with my other German Shepherd and does like to run, but he is also happy sleeping on the couch or bed.  He is very well behaved on a leash and does know basic commands, but you do have to insist, he tends to ignore them.

He loves raw frozen bones, chewies of any type, which he usually gets once a day.  I don't give him stuffed toys because he tends to rip them up, but he does love the braided rope toys.

All his shots are up to date with the exception of his Lyme booster. He is in excellent health.

Niko is also very good with kids and very affectionate with them.

I need to give up Niko due to the other German Shepherd (male) that seems to hate him.  I have not been able to get them to get along and it has caused some injuries to both me and Niko.  The situation is not good and I just can't control all three dogs.  It is this reason and this reason only that I am trying to find another home for Niko.  I thought things would smooth out, but it hasn't thus far.

Let me know if there is any other information you need , you can e-mail me or call me at 302-984-9595

Thanks so much for the help, the husky rescue did send me an e-mail that they got my last message (when they had the last fight) and that they don't have room

Wendy
